The Asher’s Legacy Scholarship Concert was inspired by the work Commonwealth Youthchoirs’ founding Board President, Mr. Jack Asher, did to ensure the very beginnings of our organization when we were just Keystone State Boychoir. We have come a very long way since 2001… it feels like we have come a very long way since March 2020 – since the Asher’s Legacy Scholarship Concert was our last in-person concert just before Covid-19 completely changed our world.Â
This year, we want to reflect on some artists who have made a difference in our lives. We want to remember those who courageously and vulnerably deployed their art as a vehicle to express personal experiences and bring attention to issues of the time.Â
Each piece in this program has something to tell us in March 2022; a lesson to teach. Whether the message is one of how to work through tremendous loss or bring attention to systemic oppression, the words of these songs ask us to pay attention.Â
By embodying their voices with our own… This year, we Rise.
On March 6th, at 3:00pm and 6:00pm, Commonwealth Youthchoirs (CY) will present We Rise, Asher’s Legacy Scholarship Concert. All proceeds and sponsorships directly support scholarships for singers in CY, so that more children can be transformed through the power of making music together.
