We celebrate Steven M. Fisher, Co-Founder of Commonwealth Youthchoirs, who recently retired from his position as Artistic Director at CY. We express our gratitude for Mr. Fisher’s unwavering dedication and commitment to nurturing thousands of young people in the Philadelphia region. A champion of combating artslessness, Mr. Fisher believes in transforming lives through music education, a conviction that was paramount in everything he gave to CY over the last 20 years. His consummate artistry spans thousands of CY concerts, dozens of life-changing tours reaching all seven continents, countless off-Broadway musical theater engagements, regular collaborations with well-known artists and premiere arts organizations and so much more. Thank you, Steven Fisher, for all you have given to embody the spirit of Ubuntu; “I am, because you are.”

Every Friday night in Terezin concentration camp, Sid Taussig and his friends would sing an anthem they wrote together. Listen to this 20 second duet between Sid Taussig and one of our boys during our “Sundays with Sid” virtual gatherings

On Sunday, April 19th, 2020, a group of our boys embarked on a virtual journey with Mr. Sidney Taussig…“Sundays with Sid!”

Mr. Taussig was the last boy in Terezin concentration camp who rescued the Vedem magazine that he published with his friends, most of whom perished.

Of the 92 boys who passed through Mr. Taussig’s dorm, only 14 survived the war.  Of the 14 who survived, Mr. Taussig is the only one who is still with us. Once again, he is the last boy!

Mr. Taussig, now 90 (!), has graciously agreed to visit with the boys during their weekly Sunday Zoom workshops, as they create The Last Boy, a play with music inspired by his time in Terezin.

Take 4 minutes and watch this clip from today’s very first “Sunday with Sid.”  Look for a weekly email on Sunday nights and take this extraordinary journey with us!

Thank you for your support in making beautiful music!

Seed to Sow is a song written by Michael W. Smith that all CY singers are taught and love to sing. Watch brother and sister, Tamir and Mariya, both of whom started in FYI!, talking about what this song and being a part of FYI!, Keystone State Boychoir and Pennsylvania Girlchoir means to them.

From her days as an FYI! student to an off-Broadway stage, Audim loves being a part of Pennsylvania Girlchoir.

We wish all our families the gifts of peace,
love and beautiful music!!

“Most Wonderful Time of the Year!”

“Holly Jolly!”

Happy New Year!

At Garden State Girlchoir’s inaugural holiday performance in December, Pennsylvania Girlchoir Trouvères came over to sing, helping to mark the advancement of GSG Trouvères Candidates to full membership. At the end of the concert, both choirs performed Benjamin Britten’s “A New Year Caroll.”

We thank all CY families for their dedication to their singers and for their support of each other. Thank you for making it possible to share your children’s gift of song.

“Wolcum Yole!”

We wish those celebrating today a happy Christmas,
and we wish all our families the gifts of peace, love and beautiful music.
